How do I assess my interests, skills and characteristics to figure out what kind of job I would get and why is this important?

There are many ways to find out what your interests and skills are. You can join many volunteer events where you do many things that can help you figure out what you want to do. Also you can try to make a list of all your hobbies and figure out what type of skills are needed to do those hobbies.

It's really easy to assess you interest, skills and abilities to use to figure out jobs that are appropriate for you
A website that  you can use to do it for you is http://www.careercruising.com/Default.aspx
Firstly, you have to find out the username and password from your school and then you must make an account.
Once you have made your account, you fill out the suvey under Assessment Results --> Career Matchmaker.
After this you can start filling out the survey to find out what types of jobs are suited for you. It is important to know what you want to do now because then you can get jobs not that will help you build for the job you want in the future by practising the skills needed.

Also, another website that can help you decide on your essential skills is http://literacyworks.org/mi/assessment/findyourstrengths.html
When you finish filling out the multiple choice questions, at the very end it shows you exactly what essential skills you have and how much of each !
